Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

"Few of us ever live in the present. We are forever anticipating what is to come or remembering what has gone." - Louis L'Amour

Our lives appear to consist of the past, present, and future. As humans, we spend an inordinate amount of energy thinking about the past and the future. These thoughts can come to dominate our lives - think of the person forever obsessing about events that happened twenty years ago. It's easy to spend a lifetime without truly living. Easy to forget that the past is forever out of reach, and the future is malleable. That our only sphere of influence is the present.

The good news is that through a little bit of hard work, it's possible to live in the present. By being mindful, nonjudgmental, and aware, we can focus on what's truly in our control, and appreciate the beauty of the moment before us. Mindfulness is a skill, and it can be developed just like any other skill. Mindfulness is an essential tool in managing many types of mental health disorders.

Dialectical behavior therapy, developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan, combines cognitive behavioral therapy with the principle of mindfulness to create a therapeutic modality well suited to a variety of challenges. At Four Stones Collaborative, we work closely with organizations in Dallas that provide DBT services to help you regulate emotions, set healthy boundaries, tolerate and manage distress, and achieve greater life satisfaction. These organizations cultivate an environment of acceptance and nonjudgment. This collaboration allows a partnering of the individual therapy available to your at our practice with the group therapy available at other organizations to help you live in the present moment and find peace and acceptance there.
